Market Research

Part of the market research is to analyse what artists are already out on the market which we are aspiring to be like. As you can see from previous posts, we have shown where we are getting our inspiration from, and can see the type of band we are looking at being similar to. This is evident from looking at bands like, Kasabian, Elbow, and The Vaccines etc. We are also considering looking at recent classic bands within the Indie / Alt Rock genre such as Oasis amongst others. A prime example of of a previous classic tune from previous years is:

What you can see form this video is that a common theme amongst many alt rock mscic videos which are set oustide is that many are based around the same type of day, such as dusk / with a low sunlight. This is to set the theme of the song and to allow the audience to immediately identify the genre of the music, as it is the common theme within the Alt Rock.

Another theme that I have picked up from looking at songs from the Indie genre, is that many music videos from these bands are mainly based around Illustration, and they are often just the band playing the song in a certain place.

We have also looked at what songs are currently in the charts right now, we have looked over many different music chartis including The Official UK Top 40 Singles Chart. From that we have seen that many different types of artists feature within the top 40 Indie chart, such as with Example being number 1 with Stay Awake, this is alongside artists such as Wretch 32, Adele, Feeder, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and Frank Turner. This shows the many different types of artists who could actually be considered as being Indie, For Example, Frank Turner who I would feel is more of a 'folk-punk' artist. Looking at teh Top 40 Indie Albums we see that it is dominated by Adel's first two albums, inlcuding the album 19 which was released 3 years ago. It sits alongside the likes of Wretch 32, Glen
