Evaluation Question 4 - DRAFT

Evaluation Question 4 Draft
In this final evaluation question, we will look at the various different types of technologies we have used throughout the duration of this project, and how these have impacted upon our work. We have used various technologies from Facebook to Sony Vegas to allow us to complete the work. Although we have had to overcome certain issues with certain technologies, we have found alternative ways to allow us to complete the project on time.

For our draft, we have just wrote about each of the peices of Software that we have used, but for our final draft we are going to create a video, with a voiceover exaplaining the why we used what we did.

Sony Vegas – Sony Vegas was the editing software we used to create our video, we imported the song using the function contained within the software. Sony Vegas also allowed us to import our footage, re-arrange and cut the footage to fit the song. Vegas is widely regarded as the easiest software package when it comes to editing video’s because of its simplicity, we also used Vegas to render our videos so that they were ready to be burnt to disc.

Mobile Phone – We used mobile phones for 2 reasons, the first reason was to contact each other to arrange filming schedules etc. This meant that we were organised when it came to filming and that we also kept to the deadlines. We also used our mobile phones to play the song to the person appearing in our video. Because of this, the person in the video was able to keep in time with the music, which helped when it came to our editing as we did not need to speed nor slow down the footage.

Blogger – Blogger formed a vital part of our coursework, as we used it for many things. The first reason why we used blogger was to keep all our research in one place. We made blog posts for songs that we felt were contenders for our final cut. All our other posts where kept on blogger, such as our Band and Audience profiles, Story boarding and mood boards etc. Blogger is very useful as it is compatible with many media formats; this meant we could use different types of creative technologies within it, such as YouTube Videos, Prezi/PowerPoint presentations and Animoto videos.

Twitter – Twitter is very useful for getting audience feedback, it is a social networking website that we set up for our band, the profile name for our band is @TISilence and we used twitter to advertise our video to followers. After we had completed our draft copy for the video, we put the link out on our Twitter page asking for constructive criticism, people gave us some feedback and we took their ideas into consideration when planning for our final piece. Without the Social Networking technology we would have found it a lot harder to gain feedback from our peers.

Internet – The internet was another vital tool for our coursework, we used the internet for research into conventions that are typical to our genre so that we knew how to go about our video. We also used the Internet (websites such as Facebook) to recruit people to take part in appearing in our video. The internet also played a key part in our song choice, as we used it to listen to songs before we chose them, and to see how they put together their video. Without the internet we would have found it very difficult to research into our song choices.

E-mail - James and I used E-mail regularly, in order to send and receive work from each other. It was useful as you could attach documents to the e-mails so that it was easy to check over each other’s work/ideas and give feedback. Without E-mail, it would be harder for us to work as a group as we live quite far from each other.

Sony Vaio Laptop – I used my Laptop in order to put together ideas that we would use in our final product, we used our computers to research into ideas, use creative technology to display our work using programmes such as Prezi, Animoto Etc. Without my laptop it would be more time consuming to complete work as I would have to use separate computers (one at school, one at home) but with my laptop I was able to work where ever I was.

YouTube – We used YouTube heavily during our research and planning stages, we watched various videos before we made the decision to go for “Dancing in the Moonlight” as our final song. Once we had our song, we looked into conventions that are genre specific to our song so that we could implement these ideas into our final product, for example- without YouTube research we would not have found that music videos from our Genre have a set theme.

Microsoft Word – Word was a useful tool when drafting posts to put onto the blog. Although Blogger is very good at creating posts, it lacks both a word count function and a spell check, so drafting posts on Word then copying and pasting them into blogger is the best way forward. Without using Microsoft Word there may have been spelling errors in our Blog Posts. Also sometimes Blogger does not save drafts, so it Is easier to save a draft on word just in case Blogger fails.

Animoto – Animoto is an online presentation creator in which you can use pictures and music as well as animation to make a video based presentation. We used this Software in order to create and present our pitch to the class. Without the use of Software like Animoto, our 25 word pitch could be slightly boring.

Flickr - During the planning process of the project we were instructed to go about and take pictures of the types of people we wanted to be in our video. This was to ensure that we were to get the right balance of people before we began filming. We chose to use the online photo sharing site, Flickr, because it allowed us to create a photo album so we could store our photos and embed them into our blog. This proved to be a much faster method of uploading, organising and enabled us to easily manipulate the photos into the correct arrangement- which improved the presentation of the blog.

Digital Camera - We used a Panasonic Lumix throughout our project to not only film the actual video, but also to take various pictures during the planning stage of our project, in addition to the pictures used for my digipak and advert. At the time of choosing the type of camera we were to use, we felt that the Panasonic was the best option because it shot in HD (resulting in good quality footage) however when we later found that the format it recorded in wasn’t compatible with Sony Vegas then we had to convert the footage which resulted in it loosing the High Definition. Another factor was because to film our video there would be a lot of moving about quickly to different locations which meant that the camera had to be extremely portable, and with the use of the tripod it resulting in some good shots.

Packard Bell OneTwo - The Packard Bell OneTwo computer was used at various stages throughout the entire project. The computer allowed me to perform various parts of the planning stage i.e. to research various digipaks and to analyse these. It also allowed me to update out blog on a regular basis. However one main feature it was used for was that it had Adobe Photoshop installed which allowed me to create my digiapk and magazine and including the photos I had taken. The computer also allowed me to store all of the footage we had recorded, and to convert it into the file compatible with Sony Vegas (on the Sony Vaio).

Video Converter Platinum - The video converter was an unexpected requirement in the later stages of the project. After filming the video, we had realised that Sony Vegas was not compatible with the file the Digital Camera records on (.MOV). So we had to find a free online video converting software which we downloaded to allow us to convert the footage into the compatible format (MP4). However during the conversion of the footage it lost some quality, however we are still extremely happy with the outcome of the music video, and don’t feel that it is too compromised by loss in quality of the film.

Memory Stick - The memory stick was also used throughout the whole project. During the early stages it was used to transfer research and analysis between home and school, in addition to this all of the photos taken for the digipak and advert. However its main purpose proved to be transferring the converted footage from the Packard Bell computer to the Sony Vegas to allow it to be edited into our film. One problem we did find was that half way through editing the film we realised that the memory stick was at full capacity (4gb full of recordings) so we had to use additional memory sticks in order to ensure that we got all of the film to the laptop so that it could be edited.

Vimeo - Our main intentions were to use the video sharing site YouTube, however when we uploaded our draft music video it was soon removed due to copyright issues. So we then changed and used Vimeo, where we have since had no issues. We used Vimeo to upload our music video to allow others to view it, so we could gather feedback. Using Vimeo allowed us to ‘share’ the video by either embedding it on Facebook or Blogger, and even link it onto Twitter. This allowed us to reach as many people as possible so we could gather opinions for our evaluation. To date our video has had over 550 views on this website, and we have had predominantly positive feedback from our audience.

Facebook - We used Facebook in a similar way to twitter. We used the social networking site to allow us to get as many different opinions as possible to allow us to better our final film. Facebook allows us to embed our music video from Vimeo so our friends can then view this and offer their opinions.

Photoshop - We used photoshop predominantly during the stage where we created our digipak and magazine advert. We have previous experience of using photoshop for the AS part of the media course, so this helped us when it came to using it a second time around, because we knew what capabilities and functions the software has to allow us to create a good piece of work. Using the functions it has, and the photos we had taken, and manipulated these so they were of the correct style. So we were able to put together a digipak and advert which in turn created the brand we were wanting for our band ‘The Innocent Silence’.

DVD - We only used a DVD at the very end of our project to allow us to hand a physical copy of the music video in. When we had rendered the footage, we then sent the file to movie maker to allow us to burn the video onto a DVD to make it playable on the computer and DVD players.

Movie Maker - Again, Movie Maker only came into the project at the very end. When we had rendered the music video we then transferred the file to Movie Maker to allow us to create a menu for the DVD and to burn the film so that it could then be handed in.

Evaluation Question 3 - Draft

Above is a prezi we have created showing a sample of our feedback we have received either through social media e.g. Facebook & Twitter, or through word of mouth. It shows a variety of different opinions that we have gathered, both good and some constructive criticism. Overall what we have learned from the feedback we have received is that the majority of people like the video, and enjoy the 'randomness' about the film. However some people have explained their reasons for disliking the video, some of the reasons were; needed a wider variety of people in the video, and needed to think about our locations more. These are both aspects of the film we were worried about, however we found it difficult to ensure that people kept to their word that they were to be in our film. Prior to filming we agreed with certain people that they were to be in our film, however when it came to filming many of them decided to pull out, leaving us with little time to find the correct balance with the types of people in our video. This is something which Liam had highlighted to us when he contacted us.

In addition to this, we were also told that the lighting in certain parts of the film didn't quite work, and perhaps was too dark. This was something we weren't to aware about at the time of filming, and as we edited the film, we noticed that it was dark but was still ok. However the overall quality of the video was harmed when we rendered the film into a WMV file to make it playable on all formats. The video was filmed on a HD digital camera, however we then discovered that Sony Vegas wasn't compatible with the format in which it was filmed in, so we had to convert this into MP4 - where the quality was also harmed.

Evaluation of Draft Video

What went well?

One of the main messages we wanted to portray in the video was the sense of enjoyment, and for a comedic effect to come across i.e. by people singing the song who you wouldn't normally associate with singing etc. We felt this was the main success in the draft video, but however with a few shots it felt like this was overdone by some of our actors not taking it seriously which effected the quality of our draft video. In our final video we still want to keep the sense of enjoyment etc, but we need to ensure that this doesn't effect our video.

What didn't go well?

There were many parts of our film that we felt didn't go well, not only with the filming, but also the actors who were going to be in the film. We had many people who had agreed to being part of the film prior to filming taking place, however when it came to filming their scene they backed out. Many of the actors who refused were female, we didn't have any trouble with the male members of the video. So now we are coming round to filming the final version, we need to get definitive confirmation from our actors before we begin filming. This is to ensure that we didn't fall behind our schedule, and to ensure that we have the video edited by Friday 25th November.

Another feature which was partly rushed, and not considered deeply enough was the mise en scene during the music video. This was partly down to a late change of plan in the location of our video. Originally we had planned to visit cities to film random people singing the song, however when we discovered that we had to have all our actors planned in advance, we soon had to dramatically change our minds and film locally. For the final production we are hoping to use my pub and to agree with locals that they participate in the film. This would be good as we need a few older actors in the film to allow us to reach a different audience. This is in addition in attempting to find more female members of the film.

The final part which we felt didn't go well was the miming within the song. When filming, some people chose not to sing the song and chose to mime it, whereas with the final version we will insist that the sing the song to ensure we maximise the effect of people singing the song in the music video. This is because with certain people in the film we felt the singing didn't come across very clearly, and looked as if they didn't know the song (despite having a few practices prior to filming a couple of shots to ensure we could chose the best).

Music Video Draft Feedback

There was many unsuccesful aspects with our music video, for example- all of the shots where very similar, for our final version we are going to need to have a varitety of shots included, from different angles. Another unsuccesful aspect was to do with the people we included in the video. In our final version we need to include more interesting individuals and not just people from our school. The one random person we included (The bus driver) wen't down well, but his lip syncing was very poor, so will need to be re-filmed. On the subject of our cast, we need to include more females as the video is very male dominated.

The biggest aspect we need to focus on, is the Mise En Scene, this is vital to our music video and was not payed too much attention to in the draft. For example, the background behind some of the artists was unnatractive, like bushes and dirty walls etc. For our main version, we will need to consider every object that is in the shot- our most liked shot, a picture of a teacher at our School was very well received, but it had bad Mise En Scene, we can see this because he is sat in his office- which is dull and boring. In our final video we will not only have to have an interesting cast, but they will need to be in interesting enviroments.

The final aspect we will focus on is the miming, on our draft video, it was too obvious that the cast were not singing the song,  in our final video we will need to ensure that the whole cast actually sing the song, as it looks a lot better. To make sure the cast know the words, we can play the song in the background.
The instrumental to the song is also something we have to consider, during the instrumental on the draft we had some comedic dancing, there was very mixed opinions on this, so we may change this for our final version.

Band Advert Mock

This is the advert for our band's album release. I have kept the same colour scheme from the album itself, this is to make the album recognisable, and to give the band an identity. Again I followed the same principle set by my album cover by keeping it simple.

Album Covers

Album : Only Revolutions
Artist : Biffy Clyro

Image and Typography : The image is of a man and woman, this is effective because they are opposites, and thus contrast against each other. A lot like the material that appears to be strapped to their heads. The use of tha man and the woman, and also the contrasting material draws the eye of the audience and has a certain artistic aspect. The fire also draws the eye of the audience. The text on the cover is center alligned so that the audience can view it with ease, the font also contrasts against the background.
Layout: The layout for this cover is very simplistic, which is what i like about it, the cover is just a picture that has been taken, The man and woman are in plain view of the audience, this was achieved by placing them in the center of the photo. I also like how the text is centered, this means it is easy to view. The artist name is also Underlined which is effective.
Colour Scheme: I like the colour scheme for this cover, it is very basic. Contrasting colours seem to be the main theme, for example the blue and red of the material contrast very well, as apposed to if the colours where black and brown, they would not look as good. The black font also contrasts on the blue sky well so is easily view able

Album : Suck It And See
Artist : Arctic Monkeys
Image and Typography: There isn't really an image for this cover, which is why it is seen to be so effective, the  simplicity surrounding this cover makes it really appealing. I like the idea of making a simple cover, but at the same time- it needs to have a certain artistic and skillful element.

Layout: The layout is also very simple, the text is placed in the center so is easily view-able to the audience, it also attracts the audience. This is the kind of thing i want on my Cover- i want one thing to be placed in the center of the cover, my idea was to have a Vinyl or Record placed in the center of the screen with a personalized label which reflects my album.

Colour Scheme: Again, the colour scheme appears to be contrasting colours, the same sort of convention i intend to use for my mock up, only with different colours- i intend to use slightly brighter colours, for example yellow: whereas this cover just uses black and white.

Album : Ready To Die
Artist : The Notorious B.I.G
Image and Typography : Again, this album may differ to the Genre that James and I have chose, but i admire the album cover because of it's simplicity. The image is that of a small child sitting on a white background, the baby is black- this contrasts well against the background.

Layout : The layout is similar to the other 2 covers, in terms of its simplicity, text is placed at the top and the bottom of the cover, whilst the image is in the middle, this is a often used convention. The fonts used for both the artist and the album name are the same, which ensures consistency- and i will take consistency into account when designing my own album cover.

Colour Scheme : The colour scheme is a simple three colours, which are Red, Black, and White, which adds to the simplicity, if there where, for example- 5 or 6 colours- there may be too much going on within the image. For my Cover that i will design, i wan't to use a maximum of 4 colours.

Album Mock Up

Below is the mock up for my album called 'Debut' from The Innocent Silence. As I discovered during the analysis of existing album covers, I have kept it simple, as I didn't want to take the risk of something too over the top. But I felt that I wanted to continue with the trends set by current album covers by keeping it simple. On the inside covers it also features the band biography (from the blog) and lyrics for the featured song on the album. I have kept to the 3 colour ruling, by keeping to the colour scheme simpleand using the colours from the images, however I had to darken the picture on the back cover as I needed to make the track listing readable.

Album Covers

Below is a selection of 5 different albums I have selected to analyse in a bid to help me design my own album cover for my own project. I have looked at many different albums in the alt rock genre to help me get an idea of the common conventions amongst them and the different styles they use.

The most recent Arctic Monkeys album is called Suck it and See, and was released in June this year. The design of this album cover doesn't follow the style set by their recent albums. As you can see from their latest release it is a simple approach, which I feel only works as they are a well established band. Their other albums feature different subjects i.e. with their first album "Whatever people say I am" features friend of the band Chris McClure smoking. However I do like the simplicity of this particular album cover, but I don't feel that if I followed a similar style with my album cover that it would work.

This album cover is the latest from American indie band The National for their album High Violet. What I like about this album is its simple but busy approach, which I feel matches their style of music. Again it isn't similar to their other album covers, but I prefer this album cover to any of their 5 albums since 2001. This is because I like the colourful effect of the art work, and that it stands out due to the colourful / unorganised approach. I feel that this catches the eye of potential customers, and stands out amongst competitors.

This album cover is from The Vaccines debut album "What else did you expect from the vaccines?" It follows the simplistic approach which I am looking to replicate with my own album cover. Personally, I don't like this album cover, I don't feel that it 'works'. I understand that the style of photo that they were looking to achieve isn't meant to show the faces, I don't think that the colour scheme works and find it boring.

This album is Foals' debut album called 'Antidotes', and was released in 2008. What I like about this album cover is the sketched outline of the character featured on the cover, who's mouth is filled full of what looks like to be sweets. I am starting to see a common theme amongst many of the indie/alt rock album covers I have analysed, in that many are simplistic, and some feature barely little on them (i.e. The Coldplay X&Y album below). I also like the font used by Foals, as I also feel that this helps reflect the genre of music - this is something I will need to think about seriously during the design of my own cover.

This album cover is from Coldplay's X & Y album from 2005. Again this follows the simplistic style which I have been researching because this is the style of album cover that I want to follow. This is something I have now decided that I want to follow in the design of my own album cover. This album cover from Coldplay features a basic design, and style with a multi coloured motif in the centre. This complements the background colour well, which helps the name of the album (top left) stand out well.
What I have discovered looking at the album covers is that many of them feature very little on the front cover, and all follow basic colour schemes and in some cases are frankly quite boring. However I feel that this works well in this genre, and allows the audience to make up their own minds about what the artwork is about, and if there are any meanings behind them leaving it open to interpretation.

Who's in our video

Music Video, a set on Flickr.
As our Toploader video is based on the Nickelback Rockstar video we had decided we were to get 35-40 different people in our video, to each sing a line (and in some cases 2 lines). So we have recently had to go and find 40 different people who would be prepared to be in our video. We have asked many different people from old to young, male and female and from different ethnic groups etc. The reason why we have done this is to allow us to follow the style of the Nickelback video, and to enable our music video to appeal to different types of people. It has proved a much more difficult task than we had previously imagined. So far we have managed to get 25 different people to confirm that they do want to be in the video, with another 20 which we are still waiting for a response (With the intention that not all 15 will say yes). Below is a sample of the people we have managed to confirm for our video, however not all 25 are there because they have been unavailable for a photo.

Locations (Change)

After more planning of our video, we have decided that we now need to change our plans for the shooting locations of our video. This is because we have thought that with the amount of people we have needed to prepare for our video, it will prove very expensive to move our actors around the country to the different locations  like we had wanted to originally. For example film in front of UK landmarks etc. So we have come to the conclusion that we are now to stick to local towns such as Lutterworth and Rugby in a bid to keep costs down. This is in addition to using the school to film a couple of shots.

Risk Assessment

For every music video created, there is a risk assessment. This is to protect both the people in the video, and the people creating the video. A Risk assessment takes into consideration all of the hazards that may occur during the production of our video. It covers all sorts of occurrences that may occur, depending upon where and how the video is to be shot.

As our film is a very basic set, and will only require a camera on a tripod for filming the different people sing the Toploader song, there are very few hazards that may occur which will impact upon our video. Meaning our video is a low risk production. However there will still be the possibility for some hazards to occur, one of which is fall of equipment e.g. tripod. The severity of this hazard is very low, but it may be quite likely to happen. How we will prevent this from happening is that we will ensure that our equipment is stable before we use it.

The only real likely hazard that may occur will be if our actors injure themselves during production. The severity of this will depend upon the situation. For example our film set will be a static structure set in certain places i.e. either in school, or in the local town of Lutterworth or Leicester. Then our actors will also be static, apart from instrumental parts of the song where they will be required to dance. So the only real chance of them falling over is resulted from our equipment.

Apart from tripping hazards, there is no other real threat that could harm anyone involved in the production of our Toploader music video. We aren't using any special effects, temporary structures, vehicles, weapons, and we will only be using natural lighting - so there is no risk of any burns etc. So all the actors in our video should be fairly safe, and shouldn't be harmed by many hazards.

Animatic

Storyboarding

Below is our story board for our music video. As our idea is to go for a similar style to the Nickelback Rockstar video, our storyboard is very simple. This is because we plan to have certain people sing different lines throughout the Toploader song. From the storyboard you can see how we have divided up the lyrics, and how we want the people in our video to sing. However what you dont get from the storyboard is what happens during the instrumental parts of the song. We are to get the people who we have chosen to dance during these parts of the song. You can see who we have chosen from the new post called "Who's in our video".

Song Lyrics - Divided Up

To copy the idea of the Rockstar video we have decided that we are to split up the lyrics for the Toploader song - Dancing in the Moonlight, to allow us to included as many people as possible into our music video. We have looked at the song and have now decided how we are to split up the song to ensure we achieve our goal of getting lots of different people into our video. We have divided the song up into lines for the correct length which we feel will suit the video we are trying to achieve. There are now 75 lines to the song, this means that we need at least 40 different people to sing the song. We can then have people sing more than 1 line during the song - similar to the Nickelback video. In addition to this we also need people who are prepared to dance during the video this is for the instrumental parts of the song. Below is how we have separated up the song.

We get it almost every night
When that moon
is big and bright
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody's dancing
in the moonlight

Everybody here is out of sight
They don't bark
and they don't bite
They keep things loose,
they keep 'em tight
Everybody's dancing
in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling
warm and bright
It's such a fine
and natural sight
Everybody's dancing
in the moonlight

We like our fun
and we never fight
You can't dance
and stay uptight
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody was dancing
in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling
warm and bright
It's such a fine
and natural sight
Everybody's dancing
in the moonlight

We get in almost every night
And when that moon
is big and bright
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody's dancing
in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling
warm and bright
It's such a fine
and natural sight
Everybody's dancing
in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling
warm and bright
It's such a fine
and natural sight
Everybody's dancing
in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling
warm and bright
It's such a fine
and natural sight
Everybody's dancing
in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling
warm and bright
It's such a fine
and natural sight
Everybody's dancing
in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling
warm and bright
It's such a fine
and natural sight
Everybody's dancing
in the moonlight.

Main Video Inspiration(RockStar Analysis)

We decided that this should be the base around which we build our music video, the style in this video is to record various people singing different parts of the song. The idea behind this is because it is simplistic but effective at the same time, it is an example of "illustration" because the actors in the video are performing the lyrics.

We concluded from this video that we would need a lot of people, also the video above contains 130 individual shots, which will take a long time to film- but requires little editing. Another conclusion we took for the video is that we need interesting people, not just normal people.

Locations for our Video

Looking at our main inspirational video, Nickelback - Rockstar, you can see that there are many different locations used during the video. This is something that we are looking to incorporate into our video - especially as we are looking to replicate the style shown in the Rockstar video. During the Rockstar video we have counted that there are 73 different locations used throughout the video, many of which are repeated numerous times. Certain locations are repeated, however with different people in them i.e. the members of public in New York city. Conversely there are a number of times when certain celebrities are used on a number of occasions e.g. Gene Simmons is shown 3/4 times throughout the video.

To allow us to create an interesting video, like the Rockstar video, we have decided that we need to included nearly as many different locations, with equally as many different people. So we have decided that we are to visit various places to ensure that we achieve our goal. We have come to the conclusion that we are to visit local and national towns and cities to ensure that we get as many people as possible to be in our Toploader video. For example we are to visit Leicester, and other other cities such as Birmingham and London (so we can included landmarks - similar to that in Rockstar) This is in addition to filming a few people in and around the local villages of Lutterworth (including people from within the school). For example filming customers in a popular pub in south Leicestershire called The Chequers. However, we have also noticed that we cant just film random people, we need to select certain members of the public to ensure we get the right mix of people - shown in Nickelback's Rockstar video. This will include many different people such as both genders, different ethnicity's, old and young etc.

As I previously stated we want to include landmarks in our video, this is to give our music video a sense of identity. For example we want to include locations such as The Bullring, NEC and LG Arena in Birmingham, and the many different landmarks in London such as Big Ben, and London Eye etc. This is in addition to filming people in the streets of these cities similar to that in the Rockstar video.

Song Decision

During our pitch we had stated that we had a shortlist of 10 songs, (which can be seen in a previous post) and that we were to do a vote with these 10 songs. From this vote the two songs which have come out on top: Feeder - Buck Rodgers, and Toploader - Dancing In The Moonlight. We had previously agreed that we were to go with the song which came out best in our vote. However we felt that our final choice between these two, would depend on our final ideas for our video.

As we have decided that our main inspirational video was to be from Nickelback's Rockstar video, which contains many different people, both famous and non singing a different line of his song in particular parts of many countries - quite often with a landmark as the backdrop. So we had made a decision that we are to do Toploader - Dancing in the Moonlight. This is because out of the two songs from our vote, we feel that this would fit in best with the type of video we are to do. This is because we feel that we could get a different person to sing/mime each line (or separate parts of a line - depending on how we split it up).

Dancing in the Moonlight - Lyrics

We get it almost every night
When that moon is big and bright
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

Everybody here is out of sight
They don't bark and they don't bite
They keep things loose, they keep 'em tight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

We like our fun and we never fight
You can't dance and stay uptight
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody was dancing in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

We get in almost every night
And when that moon is big and bright
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

Evaluation on Pitch

We introduced our film to the class by giving a brief outline as to the presentation ahead. We then played our pitch and took questions regarding it. A few questions were raised following our, one was how many people were to be in our band. At the time, we answered it was to be four members. However since then we have had a change of heart, and have decided we may move away from the typical amplification video we originally had in our minds. We have since took inspiration from the Nickelback Video for Rockstar (which can can be viewed in a previous post).

We were also highlighted to the fact if we were using a band for our performance, that the mise en scene should be seriously considered to ensure consistency within our performance. From this it was raised that we were to ensure that our band members looked like band members. In addition to this we were also alerted to decide upon our location for our video. This was to ensure that we could plan ahead to guarantee we kept to filming our schedule.
