Evaluation of Draft Video

What went well?

One of the main messages we wanted to portray in the video was the sense of enjoyment, and for a comedic effect to come across i.e. by people singing the song who you wouldn't normally associate with singing etc. We felt this was the main success in the draft video, but however with a few shots it felt like this was overdone by some of our actors not taking it seriously which effected the quality of our draft video. In our final video we still want to keep the sense of enjoyment etc, but we need to ensure that this doesn't effect our video.

What didn't go well?

There were many parts of our film that we felt didn't go well, not only with the filming, but also the actors who were going to be in the film. We had many people who had agreed to being part of the film prior to filming taking place, however when it came to filming their scene they backed out. Many of the actors who refused were female, we didn't have any trouble with the male members of the video. So now we are coming round to filming the final version, we need to get definitive confirmation from our actors before we begin filming. This is to ensure that we didn't fall behind our schedule, and to ensure that we have the video edited by Friday 25th November.

Another feature which was partly rushed, and not considered deeply enough was the mise en scene during the music video. This was partly down to a late change of plan in the location of our video. Originally we had planned to visit cities to film random people singing the song, however when we discovered that we had to have all our actors planned in advance, we soon had to dramatically change our minds and film locally. For the final production we are hoping to use my pub and to agree with locals that they participate in the film. This would be good as we need a few older actors in the film to allow us to reach a different audience. This is in addition in attempting to find more female members of the film.

The final part which we felt didn't go well was the miming within the song. When filming, some people chose not to sing the song and chose to mime it, whereas with the final version we will insist that the sing the song to ensure we maximise the effect of people singing the song in the music video. This is because with certain people in the film we felt the singing didn't come across very clearly, and looked as if they didn't know the song (despite having a few practices prior to filming a couple of shots to ensure we could chose the best).
